Efficient Renewable Energy Resource-Solar Power

In this modern era with global warming and green house gases on the rise, it is actually required that one takes note of the importance of Renewable Energy Resources to minimise carbon emissions and further harmful effects upon the environment. What could be a better way to do this than to start with your own home? Energy is expensive to acquire yet easy to waste, and using it for electricity and fuel takes its toll on the planet. Today, the greatest sources of energy have been fossil fuels, of which the three most commonly used are coal, petroleum and natural gas. Unfortunately, the combustion of fossil fuels releases pollution into the atmosphere and fossil fuels are non-renewable their availability will decline.

Solar power is now becoming ever more popular, and it is great fact is to see that so many people start to flock to getting this great Alternative Energy resource in the home. You might choose solar energy or wind energy as your most optioned renewable energy, but you could use them in combination to maximize your energy production and minimize your investment. Solar equipment is still hard to find, althought the work is easier than a decade ago. Now you will find that there are solar kits that you can buy with all you need, and the good news is that there are a few options out there. Also geo thermal power is the biggest clean and renewable energy resource on earth. It does not produce pollution particles because no fuel is burned and no harmful chemicals are released into the environment. The energy stored as geo thermal energy in the earth is so large that humans can not possibly use it up – not even in millions of years. Geothermal energy is the power which can be establised by the harnessment of the heat beneath the Earth’s surface. Deep wells are usually used to pipe steam and hot water from deep within the Earth, up to the surface.

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. Sunlight can be converted directly into electricity using photovoltaics, or indirectly with concentrating solar power, which generally focuses the sun’s energy to boil H2O which is then used to provide power, and technologies such as the sterling engine dishes which use a sterling cycle engine to power a generator. Geothermal heat pump technology mainly focus on the Earth’s natural thermal energy, a renewable resource, to heat or cool a home or commercial building. Geothermal heating and cooling uses the relatively constant temperature of the earth to heat and cool homes and businesses with 40% to 70% less energy than basic conventional systems. While conventional furnaces and boilers completely burns a fuel to produce heat, geothermal heat pumps use electricity to simply rotate heat from the earth into buildings, allowing much higher efficiencies.

Solar power helps us to minimise cost by decreasing our consumption of electricity that we usually get from fossil fuel powered power plants. And these fossil fueled power plants are destroying our environment with the pollutants that they emit. Solar power does not produce any harmful toxins that would affect our health and the environment. Both solar and geo thermal heat offer environmentally friendly options and their disadvantages far out way their advantages. If you look at both systems though, solar offers distinct advantages. If you are really looking to upgrade your heating system and being earth-friendly is the basic necessary to you, then you should be considering geo thermal as an best alternative. With solar power you will not required any electricity from an outside source, so you can install it in any geographical location.

Now, take your time to evaluate solar power . Combine these technologies to get you with all the electricity you need at a lower prises than either technology alone. Overall, geo thermal is definitely a part of the solution to fossil fuels. Before you choose any solar Wind Power, minimizing your energy consumption is your single biggest opportunity for savings.

Renewable Energy in Power Systems

Renewable Energy in Power Systems

$90

Renewable Energy (RE) sources differ from conventional sources in that, generally they cannot be scheduled, they are much smaller than conventional power stations and are often connected to the electricity distribution system rather than the transmission system.  The integration of such time variable ‘distributed’ or ‘embedded’ sources into electricity networks requires special consideration.  This new book addresses these special issues and covers the following: The characteristics of conventional and RE generators with particular reference to the variable nature of RE from wind, solar, small hydro and marine sources over time scales ranging from seconds to months The power balance and frequency stability in a network with increasing inputs from variable sources and the technical and economic implications of increased penetration from such sources  with special reference to demand side management The conversion of energy into electricity from RE sources and the type and characteristics of generators used The requirement to condition the power from RE sources and the type and mode of operation of the power electronic converters used to interface such generators to the grid The flow of power over networks supplied from conventional plus RE sources with particular reference to voltage control and protection The economics and trading of ‘green’ electricity in national and international deregulated markets The expected developments in RE technology and the future shape of power systems where the penetration from RE sources is large and where substantial operational and control benefits will be   derived from extensive use of power electronic interfaces and controllers The text is designed to be intelligible to readers who have little previous knowledge of electrical engineering. The more analytical electrical aspects are relegated to an Appendix for readers who wish to gain a more in depth  understanding. The book’s flexible structure makes its accessible to the general engineer or scientists but also caters for readers with a non-scientific background. Economists, planners and environmental specialists will find parts of the book informative.

Harnessing Renewable Energy in Electric Power Systems

Harnessing Renewable Energy in Electric Power Systems

$120

Reflecting its reliance on fossil fuels, the electric power industry produces the majority of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. The need for a revolution in the industry becomes further apparent given that 'decarbonization' means an increasing electrification of other sectors of the economy—in particular, through a switch from gasoline to electric vehicles. Of the options for producing electric power without significant greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy is most attractive to policymakers, as it promises increased national self-reliance on energy supplies and the creation of new industries and jobs, without the safety and political concerns of nuclear power or the unproven technology of carbon capture and storage.Drawing on both economic theory and the experiences of the United States and EU member states, Harnessing Renewable Energy addresses the key questions surrounding renewable energy policies. How appropriate is the focus on renewable power as a primary tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions? If renewable energy is given specific support, what form should that support take? What are the implications for power markets if renewable generation is widely adopted? Thorough and well-evidenced, this book will be of interest to a broad range of policymakers, the electric power industry, and economists who study energy and environmental issues.

Renewable Energy RD&D Priorities

Renewable Energy RD&D Priorities

$94

Research, development and demonstration (RD&D) investment in renewable energy technologies has declined over the past 18 years. At the same time, market deployment funding has increased, but the market share of renewables has decreased. Energy supply from technologies that were close to being competitive in the early 70s, such as hydropower, biomass combustion and geothermal, has not subsequently grown at the same rate as the total primary energy supply.  Wind power, several forms of advanced bioenergy and to a certain extent photovoltaics, have made it through the RD&D pipeline to market entry in some countries, but they have not yet grown broadly enough to ensure a higher penetration of renewables. In this context, the International Energy Agency, at the International Conference for Renewable Energies in Bonn in June 2004, proposed to better target renewables RD&D funding. It is believed that this will make renewable energy technologies more market ready. . ”Renewable Energy RD&D Priorities” is intended to provide guidance for the mid- and long-term development of renewable energy technologies. Due to the diversity of these technologies, their degree of maturity and market share, there is no universal pattern. Intelligent definition of RD&D priorities by each country needs to respond to local policy objectives, resource endowment and industrial capacity. Since a range of various technologies is needed to become commercially available over time, continued RD&D will play a crucial role in the process of making them ready for the market through technological advancement and cost reduction. . The publication is based on substantial input from the IEA Renewable Energy Technology Programmes, in particular the Implementing Agreements on renewable energy technologies.

Balancing Renewable Electricity

Balancing Renewable Electricity

$99

An important aim behind the restructuring of Germany's and Europe's electricity systems is to reduce the environmental burden, especially with respect to greenhouse gas emissions, of the current systems. Emissions must be brought down to a level that is sustainable in the long run and consistent with greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. Meeting these goals will require a system (as best as current knowledge suggests) that will be able to cope simultaneously with the fundamental demands for economic efficiency, environmental sustainability and supply security. Making use of existing scenarios, this study sketches such a system. It focuses in particular on auxiliary systems such as energy storage methods and network extensions. The study introduces technologies that can balance electricity in energy systems and that can serve as enabling technologies for the integration of large quantities of renewable energies in the power supply system. It begins with a discussion of normative aims for the future electricity system before continuing with a description of current policies and political developments and an overview of relevant existing energy system studies. These sections serve as background for the remainder of the study. They are followed by discussion and analysis of the growing demand for means to balance the fluctuations found in electricity generated in power systems with a high penetration of renewable energies, the potentials of diverse technologies, requirements for electrical networks, economic impacts and important legal issues. Finally, the main challenges to the achievement of developing balancing technologies and processes for renewable electricity-dominant systems are summarised and recommendations made.

The global economy and its financial system are in jeopardy, running hot on overtly cheap yet increasingly costly and fast depleting oil. A 100% renewable world is seen by many as an impossible dream in anything but the very long term. But not only do a growing number of initiatives and plans dare to make the change but many have already achieved it.This rich collection presents a series of pioneering efforts and their champions, and the paths to their successes. Ranging from initiatives by individuals to visions for companies, communities and entire countries, it defeats tired economic and technical counter-arguments, showing how the schemes featured not only can and do work but do so economically and with available technology. The book is introduced by incisive writing by Peter Droege, explaining the challenges and framing a roadmap towards a 100% renewable reality.

Cities, Towns and Renewable Energy

Cities, Towns and Renewable Energy

$135

Local governments have the power to influence the energy choices of their citizens. Many cities and towns have already encouraged energy efficiency measures. Even so, as demand for energy services continues to grow, the energy infrastructure that every city and town depends on will need to be expanded, upgraded or replaced. This provides the opportunity to increase the deployment of renewable energy technologies and decentralised energy systems, and hence gain the multi-benefits of increased energy security, climate change mitigation and sustainable development, but also the social benefits of reduced air pollution, such as improved health and employment. . Many combinations of policies have been employed to stimulate local renewable energy development. These policies include: local governance by authority; providing resources; enabling private actors; leading by example; allowing self-governance. Mega-city mayors, down to small-town officials, have successfully introduced such policies, although these vary with location, local resources and population. Cities, Towns and Renewable Energy – “ Yes In My Front Yard “ includes several case studies chosen to illustrate how enhanced deployment of renewable energy projects can result, regardless of a community’s size or location. The goals of this report are to inspire city stakeholders by showing how renewable energy systems can benefit citizens and businesses, assist national governments to better appreciate the role that local municipalities might play in meeting national and international objectives, and help accelerate the necessary transition to a sustainable energy future.

Economist Benjamin Zycher evaluates the central arguments in favor of policies that would make way for broader use of renewables and concludes that all are deeply problematic. “Renewable” energy sources are not superior in cost to conventional fuels; nor are they less taxing on the environment. The popular argument that increased use of renewables will create “green jobs” is likewise a fallacy-because wind and solar power are costly and inefficient, the net economic impact is a negative one. Zycher concludes that resource-use behaviors emerging from market competition are the best guides to effective, sustainable energy policies.

More than two billion people worldwide have currently no access to grid electricity or other efficient energy supply. This is one third of humanity and the majority live in rural areas. The productivity and health of these people are diminished by reliance on traditional fuels and technologies, with women and children suffering most. Energy is the key element to empower people and ensure water, food and fodder supply as well as rural development. Therefore access to energy should be treated as the fundamental right to everybody. Renewable energy has the potential to bring power, not only in the literal sense, to communities by transforming their prospects. This book offers options that meet the needs of people and communities for energy and engage them in identifying and planning their own provision. It describes updated renewable energy technologies and offers strategies and guidelines for the planning and implementation of sustainable energy supply for individuals and communities.

Biofuels, Solar and Wind as Renewable Energy Systems

Biofuels, Solar and Wind as Renewable Energy Systems

$89.95

With shortages of fossil energy, especially oil and natural gas, and heavy biomass energy use occurring in both developed and developing countries, a major focus has developed worldwide on renewable energy systems. Renewable energy systems include wind power, biomass, photovoltaics, hydropower, solar thermal, thermal ponds, and biogas. Currently, a heavy focus is on biofuels made from crops, such as corn, sugarcane, and soybeans, for use as renewable energy sources. Wood and crop residues also are being used as fuel. Though it may seem beneficial to use renewable plant materials for biofuel, the use of crop residues and other biomass for biofuels raises many concerns about major environmental problems, including food shortages and serious destruction of vital soil resources. All renewable energy systems need to be investigated because humankind has only about 40 years of oil and gas reserves remaining. There is a 50 to 100 year supply of coal resources in the ground, but coal will become increasingly difficult to extract and will greatly increase the global warming threat. Serious energy conservation and research on viable renewable energy technologies are needed. This book considers the effectiveness and economics of several renewable energy technologies of current interest, including biofuels, solar and wind.
