Run Your Automobile On Alternative Fuels -This Is The Future

The world is currently passing through a crisis. It is facing serious threats from international terrorism, natural disasters including earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions, economic meltdown, ethnic conflicts, and the threat of cancer and AIDS. But it seems that the biggest challenge comes from global warming and the disappearance of the ozone layer because of green house gas emissions. And over the last couple of years, this has become the biggest threat to life on Earth. Alternative fuels can help us a lot here in reducing our carbon emissions, often referred to as “green fuel,” as it can give life back to the Mother Earth.

Conventional And Non-Conventional Energy For Automobiles

The term “alternative fuel” is usually used to refer to any nonconventional fuel that can be used to drive an automobile. Popularly, they are also referred to as “gas” in the United States and in many other countries. The conventional fuels include coal, propane, petroleum, diesel, natural gas, and in some cases even uranium. But most automobiles that you drive run on either petroleum or diesel.

Some of the alternative fuels include bioalcohol (that includes ethanol, butanol, and methanol), natural gas, and methane that are non-fossil fuel in nature, hydrogen, electricity that has been chemically stored (such as fuel cells and batteries), biodiesel, oil from vegetables, and additional biomass sources.

Apart from the environmental concern, there is another reason why it has become necessary to look for alternative sources of energy. The fact is, fossil fuels that are mined from the earth are quickly getting extinguished. According to estimates, in another 10 to 15 years, most of the fuel reserves will be gone and the day is not far away when we will not have any energy left to drive our automobiles unless we look at alternative fuels.

Another concern is the uncertain political situation in the Middle East, where most of the fuel reserves are located. The rising demand for oil and the shortage in production often leads to increased prices, and this can lead to rising inflation and a negative impact on the economy. Political unrest naturally adds to this. Because of all these troubles, it makes sense to search for an alternative, and alternative fuels seem to be the right answer.

The Rise In Popularity Of Alternative Sources Of Energy

One positive development in recent years that has happened is that, there is today a growing understanding of the issues and the threats. There is, thus, an urgency to look for the alternatives.

The problem is that most of the vehicles that are being manufactured today cannot run on such alternative sources. Thus, we need to first ensure that the automobile manufacturers are making such cars, trucks, SUV’s, vans, and the other automobiles in adequate numbers. But this will of course depend on their demand among the consumers. Luckily now, the demand has picked up. According to estimates, as of 2009, there are more than 2.5 million automobiles in the United States alone that are running on alternative fuels.

So before you are ready to switch over, you need to learn everything about green energy and how they can help you save your monthly bill and also the environment. Find out more why unleaded gas costs more, how the green vehicle can help you cut costs, and how those vehicles that do not run on alternative fuels pollute the environment.

Integration of Alternative Sources of Energy

Integration of Alternative Sources of Energy

$161

A unique electrical engineering approach to alternative sources of energy Unlike other books that deal with alternative sources of energy from a mechanical point of view, Integration of Alternative Sources of Energy takes an electrical engineering perspective. Moreover, the authors examine the full spectrum of alternative and renewable energy with the goal of developing viable methods of integrating energy sources and storage efficiently. Readers become thoroughly conversant with the principles, possibilities, and limits of alternative and renewable energy. The book begins with a general introduction and then reviews principles of thermodynamics. Next, the authors explore both common and up-and-coming alternative energy sources, including hydro, wind, solar, photovoltaic, thermosolar, fuel cells, and biomass. Following that are discussions of microturbines and induction generators, as well as a special chapter dedicated to energy storage systems. After setting forth the fundamentals, the authors focus on how to integrate the various energy sources for electrical power production. Discussions related to system operation, maintenance, and management, as well as standards for interconnection, are also set forth. Throughout the book, diagrams are provided to demonstrate the electrical operation of all the systems that are presented. In addition, extensive use of examples helps readers better grasp how integration of alternative energy sources can be accomplished. The final chapter gives readers the opportunity to learn about the HOMER Micropower Optimization Model. This computer model, developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), assists in the design of micropower systems and facilitates comparisons of power generation techniques. Readers can download the software from the NREL Web site. This book is a must-read for engineers, consultants, regulators, and environmentalists involved in energy production and delivery, helping them evaluate alternative energy sources and integrate them into an efficient energy delivery system. It is also a superior textbook for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students.

The Economics of Alternative Energy Sources and Globalization

The Economics of Alternative Energy Sources and Globalization

$69

Considerable effort and money are devoted to developing alternative energy sources, such as wind power, solar power, cellulosic ethanol, and biofuels. This ebook is a collection of research papers on alternative energy sources presented at the Economics of Alternative Energy Sources and Globalization: The Road Ahead Conference that was held in November 2009 in Orlando, Florida. Thirty-three papers were presented by leading experts in the field, with about half being published in the e-book. Several of the papers explored the economics of biofuels produced from corn, sugarcane, and/or forestry materials. Two of the papers addressed the link between biofuel production and U.S. agricultural policy, and how biofuels could reduce U.S. Treasury costs even though biofuels increase food prices. International subsidies promote alternative fuel production (e.g., Brazil). This ebook should be a very useful resource for readers interested in alternative energy research and related economic policy.

Great Britain in the 1970s appeared to a nation be in terminal decline— ungovernable and rapidly headed for global economic irrelevance. Three decades later, it is one of the richest and most influential countries in Europe and Margaret Thatcher deserves all the credit. As journalist and conservative pundit Claire Berlinski shows, Thatcher’s transformation of Britain was no simple task. Her jarring economic reforms often came at a high human cost as inefficient subsidies, welfare programs, and industries were abandoned entirely. While Thatcher’s legacy has been the subject of passionate debate, Berlinski argues that we should be on her side. Socialism is on the rise and only countries willing to abide by Thatcher’s philosophy will prevail.“There Is No Alternative” provides a valuable account of Margaret Thatcher’s visionary triumphs in the fight for free enterprise.

Stationary Fuel Cells

Stationary Fuel Cells

$94.95

Fuel cells are, according to some, the answer to the future problems of energy resources. Rather than solve those problems alone, they will doubtless form part of a growing group of alternative energy sources such as wind, tidal, photovoltaic and nuclear which will reduce our dependence on oil. Stationary fuel cells are the kind used mainly for home, office and large-scale power plants. If you need a current overview of stationary fuel cells, their status and applications, market developments, market players, economics and future potential, this is where to look. This is NOT an engineering textbook: it is designed to provide potential adopters of fuel cells with the information needed to make sensible decisions. As such it is unique *Expert summary of current and future status *Decision-making aid for non-engineers *Increasingly important fuel source

Fuel Cells, Engines and Hydrogen

Fuel Cells, Engines and Hydrogen

$130

Fuel cell technology is the most exciting and legitimate alternative source of power currently available to us as world resources of non-renewable fuel continue to be depleted. No other power generating technology holds the same benefits that fuel cells offer, including high reliability and efficiency, negligible environmental impact, and security of supply. Fuel cells run on hydrogen – the simplest and most plentiful gas in the universe – although they can also run on carbon monoxide, methane, or even coal. Their applications are diverse, from powering automobiles, buildings and portable electronics, to converting methane gas from wastewater plants and landfills into electricity. Fuel Cells, Engines and Hydrogen is a controversial text that challenges the accepted industry parameters for measuring fuel cell performance and efficiency. Based on his inter-disciplinary experience in the fields of power, nuclear power, and desalination, the author contends that the development potential of the fuel cell is related to the quantity fuel chemical exergy, which, like electrical potential, is a quantitative measure of work done. The fuel cell community currently characterises these devices in terms of the enthalpy of combustion (calorific value) – however the author argues a correct, qualitatively different and fourfold larger characterisation is via the fuel chemical exergy, in units of work, and not energy. He asserts that the distortion introduced by this accepted perspective needs to be corrected before relatively efficient fuel cells, integrated with comparatively low performing gas turbines, reach the market. Fuel Cells, Engines and Hydrogen features a foreword by Dr Gerry Agnew, Executive VP Engineering of Rolls Royce Fuel Cells Systems Ltd. It is essential reading for all engineers involved with fuel cells and/ or the manufacture of hydrogen from natural gas, as well as academics in related disciplines such as thermodynamics, physical chemistry, materials, physics, mechanical and chemical engineering.

India's Nuclear Fuel Cycle

India’s Nuclear Fuel Cycle

$30

An analysis of the current (February 2009) status and future potential of India's nuclear fuel cycle is presented in this book. Such a fuel cycle assessment is important, but relatively opaque because India regards various aspects of its nuclear fuel cycle as strategically sensitive. Any study therefore necessarily depends upon reverse calculations based on the information that is available, expert assessments, engineering judgment and anecdotal information. In this work every effort is made to provide transparency to these foundations, so that changes can be made in light of alternative expectations or subsequent information. This book should be of interest to policy experts, governmental specialists, technologists, nuclear technologists, and others seeking to understand and explain the associated facts and potential consequences of the recent U.S.-India civil nuclear accord. Table of Contents: Introduction / A Brief History of the Indian Nuclear Program / Indian Nuclear Facilities / Fuel Cycle Analysis: From Beginning to Present Day / Fuel Cycle Analysis: Future Projections / Alternate Reactor Systems / Conclusions / Acknowledgements
